Description
Amalgam replacement is the process of using plastic or porcelain material to replace decayed tooth structure, old amalgam or metal fillings.
Plastic fillings last approximately five years and require one visit as the work is done immediately.
Porcelain inlay fillings require two visits. The first visit sees tooth cavity preparation and the taking of a mould for the inlay. On the second visit, the fabricated inlay is bonded to the tooth cavity.
Porcelain inlays considerably outlast plastic fillings because they are stronger and more wear-resistant - especially important for the main chewing teeth.
