Description
Through the process of electrolysis, the cathode plates of the cell electrodes are unavoidably coated with calcium scale deposits. This calcium scale requires periodical cleaning to ensure the electrodes produce adequate and efficient chlorine for your pool requirements. This minor procedure is detailed below and is only eliminated with an automatic cleaning unit.

CLEANING OF CELL:

Check at weekly intervals to determine the amount of deposit (calcium etc.) on the electrodes. A heavy buildup will interfere with the flow of electrical current and subsequently the production of chlorine. It will also damage the anode electrodes and cause damage beyond repair.
  1. Switch off the filtration and chlorinator and close valves.
  2. Unscrew cap in an anti-clockwise direction.
  3. Remove electrode holder and soak electrodes in very hot water and detergent (normal dishwashing liquid.). If this method is ineffective - Mix one part of Hydrochloric Acid to 15 parts of water. (Add acid to water). Soak for hour until clean and rinse in clean water. Do not exceed the recommended Acid/water mix.
  4. Lubricate 'O' ring using a silicon based grease for compete sealing. Do not use metal instruments i.e. hacksaw blades, as this will damage the anodes precious coating.
  5. Insert electrode holder into cell body, insuring location lug is at top of cell. Turn screwcap in clockwise direction until tight. DO NOT use any tools to tighten screwcap as you may cause damage.
  6. Open valves, turn on filtration and chlorinator.
  7. Check Chlorine Monitor readings.
