Crowns and Bridges
Crowns essentially protect a tooth and hold it together. Crowns can be used in cosmetic dentistry to treat teeth that are poorly shaped, badly decayed, fractured, chipped, discoloured or have previously had Root Canal Treatment. Dental Crowns are also used in conjunction with implants to replace a lost tooth.
A Dental Bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. A false tooth, known as a pontic, is fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth.
The two crowns that hold it in place are attached onto your teeth on each side of the missing tooth. This is a fixed bridge.
All porcelain, 'Procera' crowns are generally used for all our single crown restorations, as these are very strong and durable with no metal content. However where extra strength is required, porcelain fused to metal construction may be utilised.
The tooth on the left is very discoloured and required a root filling, as the nerve had died. A tooth coloured post was inserted and utilising a mixture of porcelain crowns and veneers, the whole aesthetics were improved by eliminating the gap in the front.
