Laser Tattoo Removal
The Q-switched Ruby and Nd:YAG lasers are both used at our clinic to remove unwanted tattoos and "cosmetic tattoos". Complete removal or significant fading of the tattoo colour can be achieved without scarring in over 95 of cases.
The laser light is selectively absorbed by the ink particles, shattering them into smaller particles. These shattered particles can then be collected by your immune cells and removed harmlessly away through your lymph system in your skin.
Response will depend on several factors, especially the ink colour and type of ink used. Black is the most responsive, all other colours are generally slower and less predictable to remove.
A simple home-made black tattoo may only require 1-2 treatments to remove, whereas a multicoloured professional tattoo may need 6-12 or more treatments.
"Gravel rash" marks left after accidents on bitumen are actually traumatic tattoos and can also be removed by Q switched lasers rather than dermabrasion.
