Microdermabrasion treatments will vary from clinic to clinic. At Australian Skin Clinics, all our paramedical aestheticians are experienced in tailoring your treatment to suit the needs of your skin. Our microdermabrasion treatments take a full 45 minutes, and include a thorough cleanse, BHA pre-treatment mask, the microdermabrasion and where the skin can tolerate it, an appropriate peel. This is followed by a post treatment hydrating mask and application of sunscreen.
When microdermabrasion is combined with an IPL treatment in a photo facial, the benefits are enhanced further with an even greater ability to reduce pigmentation and the added benefit of reducing redness and broken capillaries.
Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar improvement where the scar is raised above the surrounding skin. It is less effective for sunken scars.
Microdermabrasion also forms a key part of the Australian Skin Clinic's acne programs. Depending on the severity of the acne, a program of microdermabrasion will be scheduled initially, fortnightly or monthly to get the acne under control. Maintenance treatments may also be needed but combined with our excellent ASAP and Skinstitut skin care regimen our acne programs work very effectively.
At Australian Skin Clinics we offer three methods of microdermabrasion:
- - Diamond microdermabrasion
- - Crystal microdermabrasion
- - Hydro-jet microdermabrasion
Clients that have been on the acne medication accutane should not have diamond or crystal microdermabrasion for 6 months after stopping the medication but the hydro-jet system is gentler using only water infused with nutrients to remove the dead skin.
Microdermabrasion is not painful and should not be confused with "dermabrasion" which is a more abrasive medical procedure and now practiced less commonly.
