Pigmentation, Freckles & Melasma
The body tries to protect itself from UV radiation by producing pigments called melanin. When melanin is produced evenly it is called a tan whereas uneven manifestations appear as freckles and age/sun spots which occur due to chronic - years of sun exposure or acute exposure - past sunburn. Most at risk of sun damage are lighter skins particularly of English/Celtic origin..
Hormonal hyperpigmentation known as Melasma is a chronic condition which often begins to appear during pregnancy, the contraceptive pill or photosensitive medication which make the skin more susceptible to sun damage and results in stubborn pigmentation blotches.
Laser treatment for uneven colour
Our clinic offers a wide range of Laser and medical grade IPL equipment to treat pigmentation over a series of treatments. By using medical Laser Technology and Intense Pulsed Light Technology we are able to effectively treat pigmentation. The laser beam or Intense pulsed light absorbs into the pigment, destroying it. The treated pigment usually appears darker until the superficial pigments slough off over 5 - 7 days or until the deeper pigments fade as our immune cells remove the destroyed melanin over several weeks.
