A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to change the shape of the nose. This includes straightening, hump removal, nose tip reshaping or addressing breathing difficulties.
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
The incisions are made inside the nostrils. Some rhinoplasty operations require the incision to be made across the columella (skin between the nostrils). These incisions allow access to reshape the cartilage and bones of the nose and septum. It is an overnight hospital procedure which takes approximately two hours and is performed under general anaesthetic.
How long is the Recovery Period for Rhinoplasty?
The nose is packed overnight and a splint is used over the nose for one week. Bruising is expected, and may spread around the eye area. Patients are advised to avoid contact sports for one month and have two weeks off work.
