Saint Patrick's Day Lesson

Younger Classes were inspired by St Patrick's Day. We began with design, placing jewels on Leprechaun capes. We then danced a version of "Scarecrow Tiggy." One dancer was the Leprechaun that touched and froze other dancers with their magic. The magic was released by someone diving between their legs. Next we had snakes (ropes) on the floor as St Patrick apparently banished them from Ireland. Snakes inspired writhing movement of arms, legs, bodies. Improvised Irish Dancing followed as a contrast with straight arms and bodies with fast articulate feet. Then we slipped and fell into the bog...many times! Finally we danced with all the fairy magic we could.

Older Students warmed up with "Scarecrow Tiggy". Then explored the idea of mysteriously being followed and trying to quickly catch a glimpse of what might be behind them. This developed into exploring focus and as a group noticing where a dancer was looking and being drawn to see what they were looking at. Dances divided into two groups to continue choreographic explorations inspired by Celtic Knot patterns.
