Sclerotherapy
This is a relatively safe, quick and simple procedure. Normal daily activities may be continued immediately after treatment. Compression stockings or bandaging may be required to be worn after treatment of larger or more extensive spider veins.
Successful treatment may require a series of visits. Larger and more extensive veins will require bandaging or compression stockings to be worn for a short time after treatment. Larger and more extensive varicose veins may require duplex scan to map the vein system. This will help determine if the veins are suitable for sclerotherapy by ultrasound guided injections or endovascular laser ablation. If these procedures are necessary then referral to appropriate phlebologist will be arranged.
A recent new development has been the use of long pulse lasers such as our KTP and Nd:YAG lasers to treat red and blue veins up to 4mm diameter.
This may be an option for people not suitable for sclerotherapy.
