TASTING NOTES—Deep red in colour. Classic fruit cake aromas, raisins, currants, prunes, nutmeg, cinnamon, with a touch of vanilla oak. An attractive aroma that show good fruit complexity. The palate is medium bodied with a sweet core of vibrant red berry fruit flavour. Fine powdery tannins provide a balanced structure through to a clean finish.
WINEMAKING NOTES—Fruit for this wine was sourced from a single vineyard near the township of Cowaramup. 2005 is considered an excellent year for shiraz in the region due to the fine and mild conditions during much of the ripening followed by a spell of warm weather right at the finish giving a lift in the intensity of the wines while maintaining the varietal integrity. Fairly traditional winemaking ensued with open fermentation for 7 - 10 days followed by 18 months maturation in new and used French oak barriques.
